l. Unoccupied. Not active object play--just observing others. No interaction. Lots of body play--gross motor.
2. Onlooker. Watching others play. More direct observation. May engage in conversation but not engaged in doing. Really focused on the children. Really tuning in.
3. Solitary or independent. Separate from other kids. No reference to what others are doing even if they are physically close.
4. Parallel. Playing with similar objects clearly beside others and not with them. We have our own blocks.
5. Associative play. Playing with others. No organization of the play activity. No Cooperating in the activity. We're not going to build the same structure--we're sharing the blocks.
6. Cooperative play. Everybody has a role--sense of group and of belonging. Beginning of sports team work sort of thing.
