Pastels
Binder A. Put 1/3 ounce (av.) of powdered gum tragacanth in a bottle. Add a little grain alcohol to wet it thoroughly. Add one pint of water and allow the mixture to soak overnight. Warm the mixture slightly and squeeze any undissolved particles through a fine-mesh cloth to complete the solution. Stir in a little beta naphthol (about 1/4 teaspoon) to keep the solution from spoiling. Label it Binder A.


Binder B. The next binder solution is made as follows: 4 fluid ounces Binder A 8 fluid ounces Water


Binder C. Make a still more dilute solution as follows: 4 fluid onces Binder B 8 fluid onces Water


Binder D. Make Binder D as follows: 4 fluid ounces Binder C 8 fluid ounces Water


Binder E. Make as follows: 4 fluid onces Binder D 8 fluid ounces Water
