Casein [Pigments]

The pigments (all those that are permanent in water color and gouache) may be ground first in water and then tempered with casein binder. Alternatively the artist may grind the colors directly in the binder, using a spatula to combine the pigment with the casein solution. Such colors do not keep well in storage, and only enough for one sessionÍs work should be ground at one time. [p. 155]
